NEWS CENTER- ‘I am ready to take positive steps and make a call,’ PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan said during the meeting of the DEM Party delegation.

 

Following the Ministry of Justice's positive response to the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party's (DEM Party) application for a meeting with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, DEM Party Parliamentary Deputy Chairman Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Pervin Buldan went to İmralı Island.

 

After the meeting which lasted about 3 hours, the delegation made a written statement about the meeting. 

 

The following statements were used in the statement: ‘We had a comprehensive meeting with Mr Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı on 28 December 2024. He was in good health and his morale was quite high. His evaluations on finding a permanent solution to the Kurdish Question were of vital importance.

 

During the meeting, in which the latest developments in the Middle East and Turkey were evaluated, Mr Öcalan presented positive solution proposals against the dark future scenarios imposed.  

 

The general framework of his thoughts and approach is as follows.

 

*Re-strengthening the Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood has become a historical responsibility as well as a fate-determining importance and urgency for all peoples.

 

*For the success of the process, it is essential that all political circles in Turkey take the initiative, act constructively and make positive contributions without being caught in narrow and periodical calculations.  One of the most important grounds for these contributions will undoubtedly be the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

 

*The events in Gaza and Syria have shown that the solution to this problem, which is being gangrenised by external interventions, cannot be postponed any longer. The contributions and suggestions of the opposition are also valuable in order to achieve success in a work directly proportional to the seriousness of this issue.

 

*I have the competence and determination to make the necessary positive contribution to the new paradigm that Mr Bahçeli and Mr Erdoğan have strengthened.

 

*The delegation will share this approach with both the state and political circles. In the light of these, I am ready to take the necessary positive step and make the necessary call. 

 

 *All these efforts will carry the country to the level it deserves and will also be a valuable guide for a democratic transformation. 

 

*This is the era of peace, democracy and brotherhood for Turkey and the region.
