ISTANBUL - Equality, Justice, Women's Platform has declared its foundation. The Platform Coordinator Gülseren Onanç said that the names of women aren’t in politics but now they have a platform.

After the Equality, Justice, Women's Summit held between November 30 and December 1 in 2017, the women decided to get together under the umbrella of a platform. The foundation of the Equality, Justice, Women’s Platform website was declared during the launching meeting held at The Marmara Pera Hotel in Istanbul. We Will Stop Femicide Platform Representative Gülsüm Kav, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Istanbul MP Hüda Kaya, the Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul Provincial Chair Canan Kaftancıoğlu and many representatives of the women’s organizations attended the meeting. The Platform Coordinator Gülseren Onanç made the opening speech of the meeting.

Expressing that the names of women aren’t in politics but they now have a platform, Gülseren said that this platform is not a political platform but its aim is to make women visible in politics. What we want is to have a platform to change every kind of injustice,” Gülseren said, “What are our goals? The women’s organizations want to get together, this demand is clear. They said the struggle separately was impossible and they needed to come together. The organizations affiliated to this platform will be able to write their own thoughts and make their announcement. We will be able to support our platform on social media with our social media accounts.

Adding that they are planning to hold a women’s summit in 2018, Gülseren said, “We managed to hold the first one and I hope we will be able to hold the second.”

‘Being women in Turkey is very hard’

After the speech of Gülseren, the Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul Provincial Chair Canan Kaftancıoğlu began to talk and she said thinking and dreaming was quite important. Noting that being women in Turkey is very hard, Canan said, “Dreams of many women living in Turkey keep them on their feet. As women, we are more successful than men. There is no need to talk about the situation of women when we look at our noisy story in current situation in politics. I have the difficulties of being able to exist in politics. We know that this is the one that will change the world. When male politicians comment on female politicians, they say, ‘They should be qualified women’. Why do we carry out discussion about qualified women while we don’t discuss on qualified men? This is our reality. This platform will  pave the way for women to be in every sphere of life.”

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Istanbul MP Hüda Kaya stated that the birth of such an organization for women is exciting. Hüda said, “It is an organization that should be supported. Women from all walks of life should contribute to this platform.”

Mezopotamya Agency (AA) reporter Necla Demir also made a speech and she highlighted the importance of the platform for women journalists. Necla said, “It is undoubtedly a platform that will make contribution to women's journalism and that we need for press. The platform is a new platform and for this reason we are volunteers to make contribution to it.”
