VAN - “Our goal is big. We are here to protect our rights against masculine mindset. We will stand up for our gains with the equal representation,” said the women while talking about why they become the HDP’s candidates for nomination.

As the countdown starts for the elections to be held on June 24 in Turkey, thousands of people, including women and youths, have already applied to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) to be candidate for nomination. The women applying to be candidate for nomination for the HDP in Van province commented on why they have chosen the HDP.

A shopkeeper Hanife Güzel stated that she has applied to the HDP for the equal representation in the parliament. Hanife said, “No political party values the women except the HDP. The HDP has also co-chairs system in its regulations. The women do politics with men. Moreover, the women can take part in politics more active than men. That’s why I have applied for being the HDP’s candidate for nomination. As a woman, I will actively work for the HDP in order to stand up for all annihilated women’s rights. I call on all women to vote. Let’s stand up for ballot boxes for all killed women and abused children. No woman should vote for a party legitimating femicide and child abuse for 16 years.”

‘To stand up for our gains’

Rojbin Bor is another female candidate and she said they would determine the fate of Turkey. Rojbin said, “Women should go to polls in order to get up happily on June 25. As all peoples and women living in Turkey, we should vote for the HDP for the rights for equal representation and in order to get rid of this oppression. The best response to the ruling power that seizes all gains of women by appointing trustees is to retake these gains. I have applied to the HDP because I believe that the women should stand up for their will against the mindset putting the female MPs behind the bars. Our goal is big. We are here to protect our rights against masculine mindset. We will stand up for our gains with the equal representation. All women should stand up for their gains.”
