DİYARBAKIR - IHD and the relatives of the disappeared asked about the fate of Mehmetcan Ayşin, who was lost in Lice district of Diyarbakır in the 659th week of their protest in Koşuyolu Park in front of the Life Monument.

Relatives of the disappeared and the executives of the Human Rights Association (IHD) Diyarbakır Branch gathered in Koşuyolu Park in front of the Life Monument on the 659th week of their protests with the slogan ‘’Let the missing be found, let the perpetrators be prosecuted’’. The story of Mehmetcan Ayşin, who was never heard from again after he was detained in a military operation on May 5, 1994, in Kılıçlı village in Diyarbakır’s Lice district, was shared in the action where the photographs of the disappeared were carried. Derya Yıldırım, a lawyer, IHD Diyarbakır Branch executive, told the story of Mehmetcan Ayşin.

Derya stated that according to the statements of Mehmetcan Ayşin’s father, soldiers raided the Kılıçlı village of Lice on May 5, 1994. Derya noted that the soldiers said that there were soldiers from the Bolu Brigade in the raid and that all the men in the village, including the young and old, were taken into custody.

Derya continued her words about Mehmetcan’s disappearance as follows:

‘’Most are released after a day. Seven out of eight not released are released within a week. However, Mehmetcan Ayşin is not released. When Mehmetcan Ayşin is not released, the family makes attempts. The petition of the family who applied to the State Security Court is rejected and not processed. Then the family, who applied to the State of Emergency Governorate, is sent to the Command of Public Security.

‘Detainees witness being taken away’

Command of Public Security of Lice informs the family that no operation was carried out on that date and that they did not take the mentioned persons into custody. After Mehmetcan Ayşin was taken into custody, he was first held in Lice Brigade Command for five days and all those detained were tortured. Other detainees witnessed that Mehmetcan Ayşin was taken to the Lice Regional Boarding School, where the units affiliated to the Bolu Brigade Command were stationed while he was in custody.

The family applies to many relevant institutions and organizations. However, these attempts obtained no results. As of May 5, 1994, no news can be received from Mehmetcan Ayşin.’’

After the statement, the action ended with a sit-in.
