Racist attack in Altındağ: 148 people in custody

ANKARA - With the detain of 72 more people in connection with the racist attacks against Syrian refugees in Altındağ district, the number of detainees rose to 148.
 
Following the death of Emirhan Yalçın in the fight that broke out on August 11 in the Battalgazi Neighborhood of Ankara’s Altındağ district, a racist attack took place against the Syrian refugees in the neighborhood. In the attacks that took place on August 11-12, homes and workplaces of Syrian refugees were looted.
 
28 of those detained have records
 
Ankara Police Department had previously announced that 76 people had been detained regarding the attacks. In the statement, it was stated that 72 more people were detained. In the statement made by the police, said: ‘’As a result of the preventive measures taken in the region after the sad incident that took place in our Altındağ district, 72 more persons who did not comply with the warnings of our security forces, made provocative posts on social media and were wanted for various crimes were caught. While administrative action was taken against 29 persons, judicial proceedings were initiated against 43 persons. 28 of the caught persons have had record about the crimes such as extortion, deliberately injuring, damage to property, drug production, theft, etc. Our work on the subject continues.’’
