TGC’s reaction to police attack which 8 journalists injured

NEWS CENTER - TGC condemned the violence of the police against journalists during the commemoration events held on the anniversary of the Suruç Massacre in a written statement.
 
The Board of the Turkish Journalists Association (TGC) made a written statement regarding the battering of journalists in the police attack on the commemoration event held in Istanbul Kadıköy yesterday for those who lost their lives in the Suruç Massacre.
 
In the statement that drew attention to the violence against the journalists following the commemoration event, Erdem Şahin from the European Press Photo Agency, Fatoş Erdoğan from Dokuz Sekiz, Bülent Kılıç from the AFP, Kübra Köklü from the Cumhuriyet newspaper, freelance reporters Yasin Akgül, Emre Orman, Ozan Acıdere and Zeynep Kuray were injured by being battered by the police with shields and rubber bullets.
 
‘Freedom of the press is the guarantee of the right to be informed’
 
In the statement, which stated that journalism is not a crime, it was noted that the police should ensure the safety of life instead of blocking the journalists. The statement mentioned: ‘’We remind you that freedom of the press is the guarantee of the right of people from all views to receive information and learn the truth in this country. We condemn the security forces who use violence and commit crimes against journalists and demand their punishment as soon as possible.’’
