ISTANBUL - The lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan once again applied to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, requesting a meeting with their client.

The lawyers of Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan; Raziye Öztürk, Faik Özgür Erol, Rezan Sarıca and Cengiz Yürekli made a new application to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, requesting a meeting with their client.

The Chief Prosecutor's Office imposed a six-month meeting ban on September 23, 2020, on the grounds of the "Road Map" prepared by Abdullah Öcalan in addition to his defense submitted to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in 2009. Lawyers, whose applications for meetings were left inconclusive based on this decision, learned that Abdullah Öcalan was given a new disciplinary punishment last January.

Although the six-month meeting ban expired on March 23, no positive or negative response was given to the applications made by the lawyers.

Rezan Sarıca and Newroz Uysal, two of Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers, last met their clients on May 2-22, June 12-18, and August 7, 2019, after eight years.

It was last heard on March 25

Abdullah Öcalan, who has been held under severe isolation conditions in Imralı Prison for 22 years, was given the right to speak by phone for the first time on April 27, 2020. Abdullah Öcalan was made to speak with his brother Mehmet Öcalan on the phone again on March 25, due to the growing public concerns about him. Mehmet Öcalan announced that this conversation was interrupted.
