ANKARA - CHP, which has withdrawn from the Commission on Investigation of the Causes of Violence Against Women, announced that they will form a shadow commission.

 

The Republican People's Party (CHP) withdrew from the Commission on Investigation of the Causes of Violence Against Women, established in the parliament, last week, saying, "It is an insult to the existence of the commission and its members." CHP announced that it will create a shadow commission to fulfill the real function of the commission.

 

‘We will publish a notice before July 1’

 

Speaking on the subject, CHP Ankara MP Gamze Taşçıer said: ‘’We will also come together with the scientists and non-governmental organizations we invite to the commission to create a comprehensive report. We will first publish a notice as a result of the workshop we will organize before withdrawing from the Istanbul Convention, which will come into force on 1 July.’’

 

‘We are creating a shadow commission’

 

Gamze said that they decided to withdraw from the Commission on Investigation of the Causes of Violence against Women due to the attitude they encountered, the lack of a negotiation environment and the scandalous statements of those invited by the government that encourage crime. Gamze continued: ‘’It has no function other than to legitimize the disgrace of withdrawing from the Istanbul Convention and to make suggestions that will lead to the back of women's vested rights. As CHP, we are creating a shadow commission to fulfill the function of this commission. We will also come together with the scientists and non-governmental organizations we invite to the commission to create a comprehensive report.’’
