DİYARBAKIR - Speaking about the increasing attacks on Kurds, HDP MP Remziye Tosun stated that racism was the basis of the attacks. Remziye said that the attacks were also part of the isolation.

While a new one is added to the racist attacks against the Kurds every day, the nationalist and marginalizing language of the government is at the base of the attacks. In the district of Etimesgut, Ankara, in June 2020, 20-year-old Barış Çakan lost his life as a result of the attack of a three-person racist group for listening to Kurdish music. In Sakarya, in December 2018, Kadir Sakçı and his son Burhan Sakçı were attacked racistly after they stated that they were "Kurds". Kadir lost his life after the attack. In Sakarya, in September 2020, there was an attack against 16 hazelnut workers who went to work as seasonal workers. In Turkey, where more attacks have been experienced, Mushtaq Mahmood Kareem and his family, who came to Mersin from the Federated Kurdistan Region, were recently attacked racially.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır Deputy Remziye Tosun, who has made evaluations about the increasing racist attacks on Kurds recently, emphasized that the attacks are also related to isolation.

‘Government agitating racism’

Remziye said that the attacks against the Kurds are not coincidental and that there is no tangible situation left in the country in the name of justice and reminded the racist attack against the Kurdish family who came to Mersin from Hewlêr, the capital of the Federated Kurdistan Region, on May 14. Remziye said: "After the last attacks on the Kurdish family in Mersin, the attackers made a gray wolf sign. Of course, this has a meaning. The only reason the family was attacked was speaking in Kurdish. Racist attacks are always on the Kurds. There is an intolerance against the Kurdish people. It is the government itself that has agitated this."

‘They could not accept Kobanê’s success’

Remziye said: "Racist attacks do not occur only in the provinces of Turkey or we cannot talk about physically attacking a person. Currently, operations are carried out in many places, especially in Lice. These operations are also a part of these attacks." She pointed out that an empire of fear is being created. Remziye stated that the Kurdish people more protected their language, culture, nature and identity in the face of the attacks and said: "Every day, our youth are kidnapped in the street and offered to be spies. These are not independent from racist attacks. The 'Kobanê Trial' continues. We saw that after seven years, they could not accept the success of Kobanê. They could not accept the success of the women. The victory in Kobanê comes from the great struggle against ISIS. The ongoing isolation in İmralı is a part of these racist attacks."

‘We will continue to keep our language alive’

Underlining that they are always proud to be a Kurd despite all the attacks, Remziye concluded her speech with the following words: "We have been fighting for years. They want to destroy the Kurds with special war policies. They are now being educated in the Kurdish language and the Kurds are everywhere to keep their language alive despite racist attacks. Of course, the share of unity in the depth of this struggle is great. It is necessary to know this and act stronger. Despite the racist attacks, my call is to all families: Protect your language, we will continue to keep our language alive no matter what the attacks are."
