ADANA – Clowns usually preferred by private companies and organizations in order to attract attention and make more sales on special days like New Year, demand a job with social security benefits. 

 

Women work in many different jobs to maintain their lives. One of these jobs is working as clowns, who usually are preferred by private companies and organizations in order to attract attention and make more sales on special days like New Year. Graduated from Cabin Services Department of Civil Aviation, Gülnaz Sepetçi is a young woman trying to make a living by being clown for two months. 

 

‘Smile is needed’ 

 

“Making the people happy and raising a smile are nice,” said Gülnaz and then she talked about how difficult is being a woman in Turkey. Gülnaz said that making the children happy is very valuable for her and she added, “The society needs to smile. Particularly the children like us; some of them are scared of us but some of them dance with us.” 

 

‘We also have difficulties’ 

 

Gülnaz also talked about their working conditions and she said they worked without social security benefits. “We work one or eight hours per day for organizations. We don’t have a certain place. We are so busy particularly on New Year days. This job also has difficulties. You have to smile every time even if you have problems. Your job is smiling. We cannot show our real feelings inside us.”
