NEWS CENTER – Due to the siege that has been ongoing for 23 days in Kobanê, access to water, electricity, fuel, and food is becoming increasingly difficult. Hospitals and bakeries are operating with limited resources, while the public is experiencing serious difficulties in meeting their basic needs.
The siege that has been going on for 23 days in Kobanê is directly affecting life in the city. There are serious problems in meeting basic needs, especially water and food. Although some traders try to deliver basic food to the city through smuggling routes, the products are sold in limited quantities and at high prices.
Infrastructure problems
Due to damage and outages in the electricity infrastructure, hospitals, bakeries, and water stations are unable to operate regularly. Four hospitals affiliated with the Fırat Canton Health Council and two private hospitals are trying to provide daily services with limited fuel and energy.
Vegetables and staple foods brought in through illegal channels
Access to fruits and vegetables has also become difficult. Vegetables such as tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, cucumbers, and cabbage are being brought into the city through illegal channels by some traders. However, these products are both limited in quantity and reach the public at high prices. Basic foodstuffs such as sugar, tea, rice, bulgur, chickpeas, and lentils can also be obtained in a similar manner.
Living conditions are worsening
A serious humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Kobanê due to the siege, which has been ongoing for 23 days. While the public struggles to access basic necessities, hospitals and bakeries in particular are operating at capacity. The current situation is making living conditions in the city increasingly difficult with each passing day.
Repair work on the electricity infrastructure
The Euphrates Canton Energy Council and relevant local authorities are working to repair the electricity infrastructure. Some of the power lines damaged by HTŞ gang attacks have been repaired. While electricity flowed in areas controlled by HTS, it was completely cut off in Kobanê and its villages. After intensive work, electricity began to be supplied again to Kobanê and its countryside during the night.
