HAKKARİ - The indictment prepared by the Hakkari Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against four women politicians targeted women’s struggle against violence.
An indictment has been prepared against Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Central District Co-chair Sinem Seven, HDP Hakkari Women’s Council Spokesperson Zeynep Kaya, HDP Şemdinli District Co-chair Sozdar Atil and HDP former Provincial Co-chair Sipan Turan. Four women politicians were detained in house raids in the city on June 11 as part of the investigation carried out by the Hakkari Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Press statements were shown as ‘criminal evidence’
In the indictment, the press release organized by the HDP Provincial Organization in Hakkari on November 25, 2020, within the scope of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, was also considered a ‘’crime’’. The banner ‘’We defend ourselves against male violence’’ was accepted as ‘’concrete evidence’’ in the indictment. Again, the indictment included HDP Hakkari Women’s Council and TJA’s protest on December 8, 2020, against the rape to a child in Batman’s Gercüş district by 27 alleged including soldiers, polices and village guards.
The struggle against violence was targeted
In the indictment, which also includes the statements of women, it was asked about the use of the Free Women’s Movement (TJA) emblem, which is intended to be targeted many times through political operations, in press releases. In the indictment, for the women’s struggle by TJA, it was argued that ‘’they were engaged in organizational activities under the banners of TJA, by using the innocent feelings of ‘women’s rights and preventing sexual abuse to children’ as a showcase and providing supporters.’’
While the prepared indictment is accepted by the Hakkari 3rd High Criminal Court, the first hearing of the case is expected to hold on October 6.
