NEWS CENTER - On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Istanbul Convention, EŞİK announced on social media that they will say "#WeDoNotGiveUp, #IstanbulConventionis10YearsOld".
For the Istanbul Convention, of which Turkey was the first signatory on May 11, 2011, the Women's Platform for Equality (EŞİK) published a written statement. It has been stated that tomorrow will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the convention on the social media account Twitter with the tag "# IstanbulConventionis10YearsOld and #WeDoNotGiveUp".
In the statement, which was called to meet in the #IstanbuLConventionis10YearsOld tag on social media, the following slogans were included: "We don’t give up from the Istanbul Convention, Istanbul Convention keeps alive, Istanbul Convention is in force, Decision should be withdrawn, Convention should be implemented effectively."
‘Null and void’
In the statement, which pointed out that at least 2,336 women could survive if the convention is implemented, "We learned that Turkey withdrew from the Istanbul Convention at midnight last March 20, unlawful by the presidential decision and ignoring the will of the assembly. We said loudly that this decision made by a single man in the streets we poured on Saturday morning was against the law, constitution, and the law of international conventions, and we said that "null and void".
‘We do not give up our organized struggle’
In the statement, which emphasized that the struggle will not be abandoned, "We, more than 300 women and LGBTI+ platforms to fight against attacks against our acquired rights such as amnesty to child abusers, withdrawing from the Istanbul Convention of Turkey, taking Law No. 6284 and even the Civil Code. We never give up on the Istanbul Convention, our lives, our rights, our solidarity, and our organized struggle, as the Women's Platform for Equality (EŞİK). This unlawful withdrawal decision is so nonexistent for us that on the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Istanbul Convention for signature in Istanbul on May 11, 2011 and the signing of it as the first signatory by Turkey, we say #IstanbulConventionis10YearsOld."
‘We will continue to call the responsibles to duty’
"The duty of the state; It is not to distribute blue beads to those who glorify the family, those who demonize the concept of gender equality, those who start with the distancing of men who use violence and who covet women's divorce and alimony rights, those who advocate forced marriages at an early age, those who scapegoat the Istanbul Convention for freedom of violence and abuse (!).The duty of the state is to protect the right of every individual to live free from violence. We will continue to remind you of this and call on those responsible. We will try all legal means, nationally and internationally, until the decision is reversed."
