NEWS CENTRE- Women who not only liberated their cities with the leadership of the struggle against ISIS gangs, but also made a note in history as a source of inspiration for the global women's struggle.
The year 2014 is remembered as a period when the Middle East was plunged into chaos and ISIS gangs terrorised many regions. However, within this dark picture, the city of Kobanê in northern Syria became a symbol of resistance and freedom. The struggle in Kobanê against the barbaric attacks of ISIS turned into an epic under the leadership of Kurdish women. In this war, women became the pioneers not only of armed resistance, but also of a social and ideological transformation. The liberation of Kobanê has turned the women's liberation movement into a global symbol.
Social transformation
One of the cornerstones of the Kurdish freedom movement is the equal participation of women in social life and their involvement in decision-making mechanisms. This understanding manifested itself most strongly during the resistance in Kobanê. Women broke social norms and gender roles and took an active part both on the front line and in political processes.
The culture of solidarity developed by women during the resistance showed that war is not only a resistance but also a struggle for social transformation.
Women's power of self-defence
The Women's Defence Units (YPJ) became the symbol of the Kobanê resistance. Against the misogynist ideology of ISIS, women not only put up a physical resistance but also fought an ideological war. This resistance proved to the whole world that the will and leadership power of women knows no limits.
Symbols of resistance
The struggle in Kobanê was crowned with stories of individual heroism. Leading women brought a new definition to the resistance in women's colour by leading not only on the battlefield but also in decision-making processes.
Arin Mirkan became the symbol of the Kobanê resistance as one of the brave fighters of YPJ. Her sacrifice to stop the advance of ISIS represented the spirit of resistance and the determination of women to struggle. She made a note in history. Her sacrifice became a universal symbol of women's struggle for freedom and brought the spirit of resistance to the top. Just like Arîn, hundreds of women fought and witnessed the flourishing of women who protect their land.
Rebuilding
After the liberation of Kobanê, women continued to lead the reconstruction process. The reconstruction process aimed not only the physical renewal of a city, but also the establishment of the social structure on democratic and egalitarian foundations.
In the post-war economic development process, women's co-operatives were established, contributing to women's economic independence. These projects not only helped women to become economically empowered, but also increased social solidarity.
Assemblies
Women's assemblies have been one of the most important elements of the reconstruction process. These assemblies ensured women's greater participation in social life and guaranteed their equal representation in decision-making processes. These assemblies in Kobanê demonstrated the feasibility of a women-oriented management model with a female perspective and mentality.
Contributions to the women's struggle
The liberation of Kobanê had a deep and lasting impact on the Kurdish women's movement. This victory was not limited to Kobanê; it gave a new impetus to the Kurdish women's struggle for freedom. The Kobanê resistance inspired all Kurdish women, increasing their participation in the freedom struggle and giving direction. Women started to take on more active roles in all areas of the freedom movement.
The liberation of Kobanê and the women's resistance there, the role of women strengthened the foundations of the ideological struggle of the Kurdish people. Women's liberation has become central to the Kurdish political and social struggle.
International solidarity
The Kobanê resistance has created strong links between the Kurdish women's movement and women's movements, feminist movements and human rights defenders around the world. These ties contributed to the global recognition and support of the women's liberation struggle. The assemblies and communal structures established under the leadership of women in Kobanê became a model for other resistance movements. Women's assemblies have become a concrete example of democratic and egalitarian governance. This model became a source of inspiration for resistance movements in other cities in the Rojava region and in different countries.
They created a road map
The women's assemblies demonstrated that women can take a leadership role in the reconstruction of post-war societies. This experience has created a concrete road map for women's struggles in other regions.
Again, the success of the women's assemblies in Kobanê was closely analysed and adopted by international women's movements and feminist groups, and contributed to the development of the resistance on both theoretical and practical levels.
It took its place in history
The Kobanê resistance and the reconstruction process afterwards became a symbol of women's struggle for freedom. Women not only won the war, but also built a new social order. This struggle gave strength and a new perspective to the Kurdish women's movement and inspired women's movements around the world. Kobanê took its place on the stage of history as an example showing that freedom and the will of women knows no borders. In this process, women showed the whole world that they are not only fighters, but also pioneers in building an honourable peace and equality.
