MÊRDÎN - Speaking at DEM Party's group meeting in front of Mêrdîn Metropolitan Municipality, DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları said "We will continue to be in the fields with the slogan of women, life and freedom."

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) organised a group meeting in front of Mêrdîn Metropolitan Municipality, where a trustee was appointed yesterday. Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar, Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) Co-Speaker Meral Danış Beştaş, Labour Party (EMEP) Dîlok MP Sevda Karaca, DEM Party MPs, many representatives of civil society organisations, Peace Mothers and many citizens attended the meeting.

‘The purpose of the trustee is to say “You cannot elec'

Taking the floor first at the group meeting, Tülay Hatimoğulları said, ‘We are here to challenge the trustee coup, which we should be holding in parliament. The people of Mardin expressed their will in the elections and elected co-mayors. We believe that we will protect this will together with you despite the trustee coup plotters.’

Tülay Hatimoğulları stated that democratic politics in Turkey has been subjected to coups since 2015 and continued as follows: "On 4 November 2016, Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş were detained; our politicians who were voted for by millions of people were imprisoned. This attitude of the government reminded us of Kenan Evren and the generals of 28 February. If Kenan Evren had lived, he would have said, ‘This government made a coup better than us’. On 4 November 2024, trustees were again appointed to our three municipalities.

They chose this historical election to send a coup message through you. Ahmet Türk and Devrim Demir, who came from the women's struggle, never gave up the struggle. We will increase our struggle against the trustees everywhere. The aim of this trustee is to say to the Kurds, ‘You cannot elect, you cannot be elected’. Trusteeship means trampling on the constitution, not recognising the politics of the Kurdish people and saying ‘if you do not obey me, I will appoint a trustee for you too.

We did not say for nothing that this regime is a fascist regime. They want to eliminate elections with appointed governors and district governors. They do not want the people to govern themselves. The trustee regime harms not only Kurds but everyone. We also saw this in Esenyurt. AKP and MHP ignore all parties and opposition other than themselves."

‘Kurds do not believe them'

Tuncer Bakırhan from DEM Party said that they will continue a great struggle and resist until the trustees are removed. Tuncer Bakırhan said, "First they appointed trustees in Hakkari, then in Esenyurt, and finally in Mardin, Batman and Halfeti. They are trying to legitimise all their injustices by hiding behind the concept of ‘terror’. If you are looking for terror, you should look at the coup against democracy since 2015. You have appointed trustees to the will of women. No one believes your hypocritical behaviour. We are facing the biggest Kurdish-hating coalition since the foundation of the Republic. Since 2015, there is no persecution left. This cannot continue like this."
