VAN - Pointing out that the isolation has spread to all areas of life, especially prisons, Dilşah Alkan, the prisoner's relative, who took part in the Justice Watch, demanded that the isolation should be lifted as soon as possible and for this reason, everyone should raise their voices.
While a new one is added to the violations in Turkish prisons every day, seriously ill prisoners face death at any moment. According to the data released by the Human Rights Association in April this year, there are 1,517 sick prisoners, 651 of whom are seriously ill.
However, after the disclosure of these data, many prisoners, whose condition was serious, lost their lives. Ehettin Kaynar is one of them. Ehettin, 73, who had cancer in prison, was released in September after his sentence was postponed after he was on the verge of death. Ehettin died in the hospital he was admitted to on the night of October 31st. The situation of Ibrahim Alkan and his son Serdar Alkan, who are sick prisoners in Van F Type High Security Prison, is getting worse day by day.
'Isolation in prisons should be lifted'
Dilşah Alkan, the prisoner's relative who took part in the Justice Watch, said that her son Serdar has diabetes and this disease also affects his eyes. Dilşah said: “My son Serdar has been in prison for about four months. Diabetes has hit my son's eyes and he can't see. My husband has blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease. It is not treated. There is a great isolation on my husband and all the prisoners, and this isolation must come to an end. Isolation in prisons should be lifted.”
'Justice is not served'
Dilşah, who wanted the sick prisoners to be released, emphasized that the prisoners should not be in prison but in their own homes during the illness. Dilşah said, “There is no such thing as justice. Everyone has justice on their lips, but I don't see anything about justice. Justice is not served,” he said.
'Get their hands off us'
Referring to Kurdish politician Aysel Tuğluk, who has dementia, Dilşah said, “How many years has Aysel Tuğluk been in prison and has been released. Aysel’s illness has progressed, she can't remember anything now. I want the prisoners' illnesses not to progress, and let them take their hands off us now.”
'Justice and peace must be achieved'
Dilşah stated that her wish is to ensure a free life and peace, and that for this reason, justice and peace, which is the main way of lifting the isolation and releasing the prisoners, should also not be treason.
'Isolation is isolation against our language and identity'
Dilşah finally added, “The isolation on us is isolation against our language and our identity. We do not oppress anyone, we want our own rights. Because we want our own rights, the policies of isolation are reflected on us. Whenever peace is achieved, then the isolation is lifted. Everyone should have their own freedom now."
