10 years prison sentence to MEBYA-DER Co-chair Yüksel Almas

DİYARBAKIR - In the hearing of MEBYA-DER Co-chair Yüksel Almas, the court gave 10 years prison sentence to her with the allegation of ‘’being a member of a terrorist organization’’.
The 4th hearing of the lawsuit filed against Yüksel Almas, Co-chair of the Association for Solidarity with Families Who Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations (MEBYA-DER), with the allegations of ‘’being a member of a terrorist organization’’ and ‘’making propaganda for a terrorist organization’’, was held at the 9th High Criminal Court of Diyarbakır. While Yüksel attended the hearing with Sound and Video Information System from Diyarbakır Women’s Closed Prison, where she was imprisoned, her lawyers Hava Atlı and Muhittin Muğuç were present at the hearing.
The prosecution repeated its previous opinion and requested the continuation of detention of Yüksel.
‘I do not want someone else to suffer’
Speaking at the hearing, Yüksel said that she has been in prison for almost a year, that she has a family to take care of, and that the actions she participated in were legal actions. Expressing that she is a member and executive of MEBYA-DER, Yüksel demanded her release by saying ‘’My spouse lost his life in 1995, I went through this pain and became the executive because I did not want anyone to experience it’’.
The lawyers, on the other hand, stated that they had made detailed statements in the previous hearings and that their client has heart disease and asthma and demanded her release.
After the recess, the court sentenced Yüksel to 10 years in prison with the allegation of ‘’being a member of a terrorist organization’’ and decided to continue of detention of her.
