ANKARA - Speaking at the commemoration for those who lost their lifes in the Ankara Massacre, October 10 Peace Association Chairperson Mehtap Coşkun said, ‘’On November 24, the trial will continue and we will fill the halls. We will not allow them to close the October 10 Massacre as a simple file’’.
October 10 Peace Association held a commemoration event at Ankara Train Station in the 73rd month of the October 10 Ankara Massacre, which ISIS carried out at Ankara Train Station on October 10, 2015, and resulted with the deaths of 103 people. Relatives of those who lost their lifes in the massacre and persons who were injured attended the event. A banner writing ‘’We will not let the October 10 massacre be forgotten’’ was unfurled at the event.
In the commemoration, which started with a minute of silence in memory of those who lost their lifes in the massacre, the slogan ‘’Don’t forget October 10, don’t let it be forgotten’’ was chanted. October 10 Peace Association Chairperson Mehtap Sakinci Coşkun said that they will continue to be in front of the train station on the 10th of every month and that they insist on placing a monument in the square.
‘Obstacles are placed’
‘’In Turkey, obstacles are placed on commemorations by imposing a list of persons with a system that does not apply to any commemoration. Every year, on the anniversary of the worst day of our lives, we are faced with tear gas, baton, pressure and threats. We will try to expose this situation as much as we can, and the situation applied to us is against human rights,’’ Mehtap said.
‘This area smells blood’
Noting that the violence against the families of the people who lost their lifes is repeated every year on the anniversary of the massacre, Mehtap said, ‘’We want to state that the psychological and physical violence we suffer every year will no longer be accepted by us after this year. We have been through a lot so far. Everyone has lived many things about the October 10 commemoration. We know that this area smelled of blood until yesterday, we are coming to this area in the 6th year of the massacre to changing of somethings.’’
‘We will not let them close the file’
‘’People did not lose their lifes in this massacre for nothing. In the massacre, people came for the peace rally. They were massacred for promoting peace against chaos. From now on, we will do what we can for them,’’ she said. Mehtap continued as, ‘’They should not expect us to remain silent and give up our demand for justice. On November 24, the trial will continue, we will fill the halls. We will not allow them to close the October 10 Massacre as a simple file.’’
