MARDİN - The members of the Kurdish Language Platform, who came together in Mardin, discussed the branch offices they will open and the efforts they will carry out to make Kurdish an education and official language.

 

The Kurdish Language Platform (PZK) held its first meeting in Mardin as part of its efforts to establish its branch. The meeting was held in the Mardin Branch of the Confederation of Public Employees’ Trade Unions (KESK), closed to the press. After the meeting, the delegation made a statement.

 

‘We will defend the Kurdish language’

 

Platform Spokesperson Şerefxan Cizîrî stated that they are working to open the branch offices of the platform in many cities and said that works will be carried out in the center and districts of Mardin. Şerefxan said: ‘’We will protect the Kurdish language as much as we can. We will work to make the Kurdish language used in politics and society. We established the platform on two basic principles. The first is that it to be the language of education and the second is that it to be the official language. Kurdish lessons should be given and seen from primary school to university. It should be spoken in all official state institutions, in governorships, hospitals and schools. Kurdish should have a status in the constitution. If our language does not have a status, we will experience worse things.’’

 

Şerefxan also responded to the statements of people who do not know or understand Kurdish that ‘’Kurdish is not a sufficient language to be the language of education’’ and said: ‘’Especially politicians and journalists who do not speak Kurdish are very wrong to talk about this issue. There are examples proving that their views are wrong. There is education in Kurdish in Rojava and Southern Kurdistan. It is spoken as the official language. We also have TV, newspapers and agencies broadcasting in Kurdish. These are shows that the views are wrong.’’
