DİYARBAKIR - In the hearing of journalist Nurcan Yalçın within the scope of the Rosa Women’s Association investigation, the prosecutor requested a prison sentence of up to 20 years.

The 5th hearing of the lawsuit filed against journalist Nurcan Yalçın on allegations of ‘’being a member of a terrorist organization’’ and ‘’making propaganda of a terrorist organization’’ within the scope of the Rosa Women’s Association investigation was held at the Diyarbakır 9th High Criminal Court. While Nurcan did not attend the hearing, her lawyer Resul Temur was present.

Diyarbakır Police Department Anti-Terrorism Branch, in a letter sent to the court regarding our agency, it was claimed that the agency’s website was accessed by VPN because access to the agency’s website was blocked, and that the agency made news praising and supporting the PKK and KCK.

She surrendered her will to the will of the organization!

The prosecution stated that there were no requests for extension of inquiry regarding the case, that his opinion on the merits of the case was ready, that the evidence obtained in all the file and the statements of secret witnesses were sufficient to indicate that she participated in organizational actions within the framework of the activities of the Rosa Women’s Association, surrendered her will to the will of the organization, and acted within the hierarchy of the organization, and sufficient and convincing evidences were gathered. The prosecution requested a prison sentence of up to 20 years on allegations of ‘’making chain propaganda of the terrorist organization’’ and ‘’being a member of a terrorist organization’’ in a way that would legitimize the aims and methods of the organization with a photo shared by Nurcan on her public social media account.

‘Police defined journalism in its own way’

Lawyer Resul Temur reacted to the letter sent by the Diyarbakır Police Department to the court regarding our agency and stated that the police defined and interpreted the news and journalism made by the agency in its own way, and that the definitions did not reflect the truth. Expressing that JINNEWS is an institution that legally carries out journalistic activities, Resul presented the tax-plate to the court that the agency was operating legally. Resul reminded that his client, Nurcan Yalçın, is not a JINNEWS reporter, but a reporter for Jin News Agency (JINHA), and stated that they have submitted documents and statements regarding this to the court before.

The court board accepted the request for time and postponed the next hearing to 22 November.
