ISTANBUL - Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Central Executive Board member Ayşe Berktay commented on the isolation imposed on the PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and said, “Just using word of isolation doesn’t adequately reflect the isolation in İmralı. An annihilation policy is being carried out there. The ruling power is trying to establish its own sovereignty there.”

The aggravated isolation on the PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan is going on while the rights violation put into practice by the ruling power under the name of the state of emergency is going on without pausing. The visit to Abdullah Öcalan hasn’t been allowed and the applications of his family and lawyers to see him have been rejected.  Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Central Executive Board member Ayşe Berktay commented on the isolation and election. Mentioning that the developments both in Turkey and in the Middle East have turned into a spiral along with the isolation in İmralı, Ayşe said when the decision for war and annihilation policies was made; the practice of the isolation was added to the agenda.

‘Isolation practices reflect the country’s policy’

Stating that the practices for the isolation reflect the country’s policy, Ayşe said, “the isolation is getting worse, the struggles are getting stronger. A choice is in question for the sovereigns. They ask, ‘Are we going to pursue hegemonic politics or bring democratic preference into the forefront?’ They show their preference to the society by aggravating the isolation and the conditions in İmralı.”

Expressing that the ruling power blocked the solution by aggravating the isolation, Ayşe indicated that a power that can prevent the war policies and warn the people was also blocked. “Isolation is an incident in which the laws have been suspended. Expressing this situation as isolation just puts it in an ordinary situation. Just using word of isolation doesn’t adequately reflect the isolation in İmralı. An annihilation policy is being carried out there. The ruling power is trying to establish its own sovereignty there.”

‘We should spread on effort to change this’

Recalling that there is also an electoral process in front of them, Ayşe said, “Rather than talking about the election, I believe that we should talk about whether there are good conditions for the election. We are interested in if there is a safe environment for the election rather than the thought saying ‘Who will make an alliance with who’ in the election.  Of course, other things are also important but we should spread on effort to change the conditions of the election by saying, ‘An election cannot be held under these conditions’.”
