9 March 1994: Don’t Mess With My Friend!

Feminist women who came together on March 9, 1994, started the campaign called "Don't Mess With My Friend!” The campaign began with the advertisement published in the newspaper with the signature of 104 women from the feminist movement and human rights struggle. The advertisement of Cumhuriyet Newspaper said "As women aren’t Kurdish women, we are ashamed of the privileges that our identity cards have been given us”. Women continued the campaign by distributing the badges and bookmarkers they prepared on the streets of Istanbul and in crowded places. Similar actions were organized in various cities with the support of women living outside of Istanbul. The campaign was spread with the contribution of Express first, followed by support of Leman magazines. In the readers mentioned their reactions to war, nationalism and racism in their messages sent to the magazines.
