ISTANBUL - Family of Berkin Elvan, who was killed by police, made a statement outside of the courthouse before the fifth hearing of the case. “We want the killer to appear before judge. We demand only one thing, it is justice,” said the family.

 

Fifth of the case of Berkin Elvan, who was hit on the head by a tear-gas canister fired by a police officer on June 16, 2013 and died in the hospital after 269 days, has been held today by Istanbul 17th High Criminal Court. Before the hearing, the family of Berkin Elvan made a statement outside of the courthouse. Berkin Elvan’s sister Gamze Elvan read the statement in behalf of the family. Gamze said, “We demand justice for our son. We sent our son Berkin to buy bread on June 16, 2013 and he was hit on the head by a tear-gas, he tried to keep alive for 269 days. Today is fifth hearing of our Berkin. We will keep our struggle to not forget our children. We demand the perpetrators of our children to account before the judgement. We demand only one thing, it is justice.”
