İZMİR - İzmir Socialist Women's Assemblies Spokesperson Beritan Altun stated that the primary target of Turkey’s attacks on Afrîn is the gains of women in Northern Syria and added, “The attacks on Afrîn are attacks on women’s mind.”

Attacks of Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) and Free Syrian Army (FSA) have entered the 14th day. Stating that the primary target of Turkey’s attacks on Afrîn is the gains of women in Northern Syria, İzmir Socialist Women's Assemblies Spokesperson Beritan Altun shed light on how the attacks on Afrin will affect women in Turkey.

Expressing that violence against women, labor exploitation and child abuse will increase in Turkey as long as the attacks on Afrin continue; Beritan stated that the women should take to the streets against the attacks.

‘The attack is an attack on women’s mind’

Pointing out that the war is a product of a male-dominant mindset; Beritan said the women meanwhile fought militarism, war and standardization. Stating that a women’s revolution is taking place in Rojava and women’s mind and labor are very strong in the building of the revolution, Beritan said that the attack on Afrin is actually an attack on women’s mind and that women should respond to these attacks.

‘Women will be victims’

Indicating that the AKP has launched this war in order to take votes of the nationalist segments and to overcome the crisis it faces, Beritan said the war budget has been taken from the citizens’ pocket.

Stating that the AKP gave a message telling the women in Turkey, “Send your children to the war, they may die but don’t say anything,” Beritan said “The victims of the war will be women again.”
