DİYARBAKIR-Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-president Leyla Güven talked about ‘one-type’ uniform imposition wanted to be practiced in prisons and emphasized that they will do our best to make the state withdraw one-type uniform imposition recalling her previous experiences.

The reactions from the relatives of prisoners, political parties and many other environments against “one-type” uniform imposition, which is wanted to be practiced in prisons by the statutory decree law no.696 within the scope of emergency decree, continue to increase. Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-president Leyla Güven pointed out to the practices that are tried to be actualized on the political prisoners previously, and said, “We remember the September 2nd dungeons. Our friends enlightened prisons with their bodies and they add a great resistance to the struggle.”

We are in a process that everybody is stand trial’

Saying that occupation rate in prisons has doubled during the AKP governance, Leyla stated that AKP aims to change the system and they go towards to opponent section. Leyla said, “AKP has developed a dungeon policy aimed at women, young people, old people and children with a judgement politicized by very small excuses. We can say that those, who are outside, live in an open-top dungeon. We live in a process that no one can express themselves freely, and that everyone can be judged for what they said. Kurdish people again pay the heaviest price for it. Those, who elected by Kurdish people, politicians, all occupational groups are in prison in this day and time. There is something the AKP has ignored. As long as the problem of the Kurdish people is not solved democratically, the prisons will always become their second house.”

‘The prisoners resisted’

Recalling that the prison life always has deemed proper for Kurdish people, Leyla stated that a resistance came out against this. Leyla pointed out to the prison resistance of the political prisoners and said, “We know that the women prisoners, particularly the prisoners in Elazığ Prison, resisted against fascist practices in prisons by staging hunger strikes. We also know that the women prisoners and the other political prisoners resisted proudly against strip searches, ID card and camera system in many prisons. Maybe, we couldn’t support very much their resistance from the outside. We couldn’t carry out massive actions due to the emergency decree and fascistic practices of AKP. This is our self-criticism”.

‘As long as we are together, we have power to do this’

Leyla said that as DTK, they are carrying out various works in international arena and in Turkey to lift the aggravated isolation practiced on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and to evacuate the prisons. Emphasizing that it is not an acceptable thing to be keep under isolation a leader of a community, who regard him as a great leader and Council of Europe Torture Prevention Committee (CPT) takes part in this crime, Leyla continued as follows: “We believe that the revolutionary and democratic forces in Turkey should meet in the middle. This can be democracy front, union of forces, whatever the name is, partnership is needed. Kurdish people, socialists, young people, platforms, women and those, who are  excluded, should come together and should comprise a block in Turkey just as we uphold national unity and the necessity that the Kurdish people must come together in four parts. As long as we are together, we have power to do this”.

‘There will be same resistances again’

Saying that “one-type” uniform is not a practice that can be acceptable, Leyla stated that they tried this before but it didn’t work. Leyla finished her words by saying as follows: “These friends went out to the court hall without wearing these uniforms. They have developed resistance in dungeons against these for years. It is absolute that the same resistances will be done again. For this reason, the AKP must withdraw its practice on political prisoners. This is quite clear from our friends' explanations. It is not an acceptable thing. We also do our best to make the state withdraw ‘one-type’ uniform imposition”.
