İSTANBUL- Stating that in parallel with the attacks on women’s acquisitions and women's rights have increased at Equality, Justice Summit Conference, prof. Dr. Fatmagül Berkay said, “Woman struggle in Turkey is litmus paper for every struggle”. Fatmagül emphasized that there can’t be equality of woman and man without democracy.

Equality, Justice Summit Conference, which will last for two days, started with the presentation of one of CHP administrators Gülseren Onanç in WOW Hotel, in İstanbul. Women from 48 provinces and almost every region attended to the conference. The conference has been started after the song “Women are existing”, written by Filiz Kerestecioğlu. The song was sung by all women at the conference. First linguistic scientist Necmiye Alpay began to speak and said that we are in a process that has immoderate applications not only in terms of Turkey but also in terms of all constitutional regulations. Necmiye, who has worked in closed Özgür Gündem Newspaper as a chief editor and thus has been detained, said, “Özgür Gündem is a legal newspaper. Particularly, it handles the situation of problems of women. When we were arrested, a big solidarity came out unexpectedly. People realized that there is no crime in it however, those, who couldn’t realize, winked at this. Then the writers dismissed from their duties one by one.”

Fatmagül Berktay: They attacks to 6284

Stating that women’s struggle assumes ‘litmus paper’, Fatmagül Berktay said, “There are many attacks on women particularly in countries just like Turkey. These attacks are not coincidence. These are a consequence of our acquisitions. If you pay attention, now they are trying to get our rights back. For instance, there is an attack towards law no.6284 (law towards protection of family and preventing violence against woman). They call this law as ‘law of ruining family’”.

Woman prosecutor rate is 6%

Bertil stated that the judgement must be checked and added, “You cannot produce high quality democracy without this. The essence of this is equality of woman and man. We should organize a system with the people, who tested by effort and self-abnegation to build this.”

Conference is continuing with the panel that CHP General President Kemal Kılıçtaroğlu attended and Ayşe Arman is moderator of the panel.
