Child injured in Nusaybin: We thought the exploded object was a toy

MARDİN- An object was exploded and injured children, one of these children Ö.Y. stated that they thought the exploded object was a toy. His mother Sosin demanded the area to be cleared soon and she said, “Don’t let more children die.”
 
Two days ago, three children aged 11-12 were injured when an object exploded near the area of excavation of TOKİ (the division for state housing) poured in Yenişehir Neighborhood of Mardin’s Nusaybin district. One of these children 11-year-old Ö.Y. was discharged from the hospital after his treatment. And he told what they had happened as follows; “My cousins and I went to the area of excavation of TOKİ (the division for state housing) poured. We found an object like a ball. Then we took it in order to play football. But we didn’t know it was a bomb. We tried to break it to understand what it was. We threw it several times but it didn’t explode. My cousin N.Y. threw it for fourth time and we heard a boom. I was the one the farthest away from the bomb. My cousin near me was lying in a pool of blood. And my other cousin was also injured in his belly and arm. I was injured in my foot. Then we were taken to hospital. There are many things like it in the area; we thought the exploded object was a toy.”
 
Sosin Yelmen, mother of Ö.Y., said they didn’t allow their children to go out due to these kinds of explosions. Sosin said, “I saw the children at hospital. All of them were drenched in blood. The condition of my brother’s son was seriously injured, the other was discharged from the hospital but he always vomit. He has pieces of object in his shoulder and in his belly. He will undergo a surgery tomorrow. All neighborhood residents expected that.  The construction was started immediately before the search was done.”
 
‘Don’t let this happen to other children’
 
Recalling that two children have lost their lives in the last two years due to explosions, Sosin said, “If the bomb exploded in the hands of the children, they wouldn’t be here now. Measures must be taken in order to prevent this from happening again. Don’t let this happen to other children.”
 
‘The area of excavation must be cleared’
 
“They must clear this area and neighborhood. Something should be done in order to stop more children die.”
