Yasemin Çakal: Why are women’s lawyers behind bars while rapists wandering around?

ISTANBUL-Yasemnin Çakal reacted to the imprisonment of lawyer Sezin Uçar, she calls him friend and she asked; “Why are women’s lawyers imprisoned while the child molesters and rapists wandering around?” Yasemin aims at seeing Sezgin in prison with a special permission by applying to Bakırköy Public Prosecutor in the coming days.
 
Women lawyers gave the greatest support to Yasemin Çakal, who killed the abusive man in self-defense and was held in prison for a long time. Yasemin reacted to the imprisonment of lawyer Sezin Uçar from the Law Office of the Oppressed (EHB) on October 26 along with lawyer Özlem Gümüştaş. Yasemin talked about Sezin and she said, “She is a women standing up for the people like us. She is not only a lawyer but also a friend of us.”
 
‘Why are the people like Sezin jailed?’
 
Stating that she was astonished when she heard the arrest of Sezgin, Yasemin said, “I have no interest in politics. I don’t understand anything from politics. But why are the people like Sezin jailed? Pointing out that the offenses of abuse, harassment and femicide have been released on parole, Yasemin said, “I don’t understand why women’s lawyers are imprisoned while the child molesters and rapists wandering around.
 
Yasemin met with Sezin two days ago her imprisonment and they took many pictures and videos together. “Now I am looking at these photos and videos. I am so glad I took these. I want to tell everyone how Sezin is a good person. I don’t accept her imprisonment. I hope they release Sezin soon.”
 
‘What do they prevent by jailing Sezin?’
 
Saying that she is angry about what is going on, Yasemin added, “Why is a lawyer working for women, supporting women jailed? She is a woman supporting all women. What do they prevent by jailing Sezin? The women like us need her. I need her.”
