Eğil Co-mayor Petek Elyusa sentenced to 7 years, 6 months in prison

DİYARBAKIR – Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court has sentenced Eğil Co-mayor Petek Elyusa Çapanoğlu, who was released pending trial, to 7 years and six months in prison and ruled her arrest.
 
Second trial of lawsuit opened against DBP’s Eğil Co-mayor Petek Elyusa Çapanoğlu for being delegate of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) between 2009 and 2014 and for attending 18 press conferences, actions and events was held by Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court. Petek didn’t attend the trial but her lawyer Cabbar Leygara attended. Cabbar stated that the DTK is a legal organization and that his client’s actions were in the scope of freedom of thought and expression and he demanded his client to be acquitted. The court has sentenced Petek to seven years and six months in prison for alleged “membership to a (terrorist) organization” on the ground that her actions were continuous.
