NEWS CENTER- The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has rejected the application of academics, mostly signed ‘Declaration of Peace’ petition, about violation of the right to freedom of expression.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rejected the application of academics dismissed by statutory decrees (KHK) issued under the state of emergency (OHAL) about violation of the right to freedom of expression. 54 academics, mostly from Ankara University and signed ‘Declaration of Peace’ petition, made the application to the ECHR on June. The preparatory work of the application was made by Kerem Altıparmak, Yaman Akdeniz, Nisan Kuyucu, İnci Solak Akman and Tuğba Öcal.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kerem Altıparmak made a short statement on rejection of the application and he stated that the ECHR has disregarded the right to freedom of expression in the convention.

Previously, the ECHR rejected the demand of interim measure for educators Nuriye Gülmen and Semih Özakça, who are on hunger strike. The ECHR ruled that the detention on remand poses no real imminent risk to irreparable harm to life.
