NEWS CENTRE - The siege of Kobanê has entered its 15th day. Meeting needs such as healthcare, food, fuel and similar items is becoming increasingly difficult.

HTS and affiliated gangs attacked the neighbourhoods of Şêxmeqûd and Eşrefiyê on 6 January, followed by attacks on areas in northern and eastern Syria. These attacks caused people displaced from the countryside around Tebqa, Raqqa, Eyn Îsa and Kobanê to head for the city of Kobanê.

Gangs affiliated with HTS have been imposing a heavy siege on Kobanê for 15 days, putting the lives of 600,000 people living in the city at risk. In particular, medicines are unavailable, and chronically ill patients cannot go out to continue their treatment. Electricity has been cut off; fuel and food supplies cannot be obtained.

This siege aims to break the will of the Kurdish people. From day one, the people of Kobanê have taken responsibility for the displaced and defended their villages and city. The gangs have not been allowed to advance.

According to the agreement reached between the QSD and HTS on 30 January, which came into effect yesterday, the siege on Kobanê should have been lifted. However, despite talks between the Kobanê Internal Security Forces and a delegation from the interim government's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the siege continues.

Meanwhile, humanitarian aid prepared by the people in Kurdistan is not being allowed to pass through to Kobanê.

Despite the difficult conditions, the resistance of the people of Kobanê continues.
