NEWS CENTRE - The European Union stated that the agreement between the QSD and HTŞ is an important step towards a solution and called on the parties to abide by it.

 

European Union (EU) Foreign Affairs Commission Spokesperson Anouar El Anouni made a statement regarding the agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (QSD) and the HTŞ gangs.

 

In the statement, “The European Union welcomes the agreement reached today between the Syrian transitional authorities and the Syrian Democratic Forces. We call on all parties to implement it in a spirit of good faith and compromise.

 

A full cessation of hostilities is needed to enable the provision of humanitarian aid, the protection of civilians and the return of internally displaced persons.  Stability of North East Syria is key for the success of an inclusive political transition in Syria, protecting the rights of all Syrian people.

 

We call on all sides to ensure the security of camps and detention facilities and work to prevent the resurgence of Da’esh. The European Union stands ready to support the implementation of the agreement.”
