ISTANBUL - Commenting on the ongoing attacks in Rojava and Syria and the HTS's practices targeting women, Yasemin Özgün emphasized that the attacks go beyond a military operation and constitute a “special war policy,” stating, “Protecting the women's liberation model in Rojava is the responsibility of all women around the world.”
Against the attacks carried out by HTS gangs targeting the gains of the women's revolution, with Turkey's support since January 6, people and women around the world are raising their voices in the streets.
Yasemin Özgün, a member of the I Need Peace Women's Initiative, spoke about the attacks on Rojava. Yasemin Özgün called for global solidarity, saying, “In a world where women are under attack, none of us are free,” referring to the HTS's attacks targeting civilians and women.
‘Revived with the support of international powers’
Yasemin Özgün emphasized that the attacks were not only military in nature, but part of a specific war policy that directly targeted women's identity and bodies. Yasemin Özgün said, "This structure objectifies women's bodies on the battlefield. This structure is characterized by its attacks on humanity, its enslavement of women, its domination over their bodies, its torture, and its re-objectification of women's bodies on the battlefield. This structure was largely repelled by the resistance that began in the Kobanê wars, and in fact, the threat it posed not only to the Kurds but to the world was largely eliminated. However, we now see this threat reviving, especially with the support of international powers."
‘The path to living in a free environment lies in stopping HTS’
Yasemin Özgün pointed out the impact of the democratic model being built in Syria on women's liberation, stating that attacks on this structure are not coincidental. Noting that every area where women assert their will becomes a target of the patriarchal mindset, Yasemin Özgün said, "Being in favor of a structure where women are strong and free, and where there is a democratic process, also means being in favor of women and women's liberation. This means protecting the point that the women's struggle has reached. Therefore, we must stand in condemnation of all these attacks. We must strengthen international women's solidarity against these attacks. Not only in Syria, but also in Turkey and other regions, the path to women living in a more free and equal environment lies in stopping HTS. Unfortunately, international powers have turned a deaf ear to many things and remain silent about the brutal genocide and massacres committed by these jihadist gangs with a clear track record."
