NEWS CENTER - Newaya Jin met with readers to draw attention to the role of women in the media.

Newaya Jin met with readers in Hanau and Darmstadt cities, Germany, yesterday to draw attention to the role of media around the world and the struggle of women in this field. Ülkem Zeremya, one of the newspaper’s workers, made a presentation at the meeting organized by the Nujin Women’s Council.

While going towards the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Ülkem pointed out the importance of meeting with the readers and stated that women media workers are exposed to pressure from men and governments in many centers of the world because of their work.

‘A publishing against the patriarchal mentality’

Noting that Kurdish journalists are prosecuted for writing the truth, Ülkem said that Kurdish women’s press is mostly based on publishing against the patriarchal mentality. ‘’With the 1990s, the Kurdish women’s press began to come to an influencing point and to show its presence against the masculine media. This has developed in parallel with the rise of the Kurdish women’s struggle,’’ she said. Ülkem noted that the Newaya Jin newspaper has been publishing monthly since 2005 and reminded that there are tens of women’s labor to this publishing of the newspaper.

‘We prioritize the success and struggle of women’

Ülkem stated that they have adopted a publishing policy that concerns the social, political, economic and cultural lives of women and continued, ‘’In editorial policy, we prioritize the success and struggle of women rather than the victimization of women’’.

On the other hand, a similar meeting took place in Darmstadt city. The women who came together in the Kurdish community center drew attention to the difference and role of the Kurdish media.
