October 29, 2016: JINHA closed down with Decree Law No. 675

After the 15 July coup attempt, many press organisations were closed down with the Decree Laws with State of Emergency declared by the government. One of these decree laws was the Decree No. 675, which was issued on October 29, 2016. Jin News Agency (JINHA), which started its broadcasting life on March 8, 2012 and was the first women news agency in Turkey, was closed down with the Decree Law No. 675. In addition to JINHA, 10 newspapers, two news agencies and three journals, including Özgür Gündem, Dicle News Agency (DIHA), Azadiya Welat and Yüksekova Haber, were closed down.
 
Other important incidents that come to the fore today in history are as follows:
 
1692: Salem ‘’witch’’ courts are ended by Massachusetts Governor William Phips. Salem ‘’witch’’ hearings were the name of a trial that caused the execution of 30 people in Massachusetts between 1692 and 1693.
 
1837: Harriet Powers was born, who sewed quilts using techniques derived from the centuries-old craft of African Americans and lead to bring this craft to the present day.
 
1909: The cover of the newspaper Vote for Women published in Britain placed the force-feeding of women who were arrested in vote right actions and on hunger strike in prison.
 
1924: Second World War resister, friend of the peoples of the world, Danille Mitterand was born.
 
2007: The 3rd Jinên Ciwanên Azad Conference was held with the participation of many delegates.
 
2015: Bidhya Devi Bhandari is elected as Nepal’s first woman president. Bidhya, 54-year-old, who has been active in politics since high school years, is known for her struggle for equality throughout her life.
 
2016: Women Human Rights Defenders-WHRD Middle East and North Africa Regional Coalition strongly reacted to the detention of KJA Spokesperson Ayla Akat Ata and Amed Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Gültan Kışanak and demanded their immediate release.
 
2017: The Constitutional Court of India said in a case brought to it that ‘the decision to abortion or give birth belongs only to women’.
 
2018: Les Filles du Soleil (Girls of the Sun), about the struggle of Kurdish women, was screened at the 24th International Geneva Film Festival.
 
2020: Protesters block an avenue in the city center during a protest against the tightening of abortion law in Warsaw, Poland.
