‘Las Tesis’ trial adjourned

IZMIR - The judge, who asked manipulative questions in the case which 24 women were tried on the grounds that they danced ‘’Las Tesis’’, had the statements written differently in the minutes.
 
A lawsuit was filed against 24 women, who gathered to protest the increasing femicides, sexual assault and abuse on December, 15, 2019, who supported the ‘’Las Tesis’’ protest action that spread around the world for Daniella Carasso, who was raped and killed after she was detained in Chile. The fifth hearing of the lawsuit filed on the grounds of ‘’humiliating the institutions and organs of the state’’ and ‘’violation of the law on meetings and demonstrations No. 2911" was held at the 7th Civil Court of First Instance of Bayraklı Courthouse. The trial was followed by women from the We Will Stop Femicides Platform and Women Are Stronger Together (KBG).
 
The judge demanded that the statement be passed to minutes diferently
 
The hearing, which started with identification, continued with the statements of Zuhal Sert and Ertürk Yılmaz, who were not present in the previous sessions. In her statement, Zuhal said that the action was not illegal and that her aim was to raise awareness against violence against women. The chief judge had the officer to be passed the statements as ‘’I had no idea that the action was illegal’’ on to the minutes. Lawyer Hazal Aydın, who objected to the situation, noted that the judge was trying to direct those on trial by asking ‘’manipulative’’ questions.
 
Ertürk Yılmaz, who made a statement afterwards, stated that she did not participate in the dance and that she took a photo in the action. Stating that the action was a legal and peaceful one, Ertürk demanded her acquittal. Ertürk’s lawyer requested acquittal for her client.
 
Final hearing adjourned to 5 months later
 
The court board adjourned the next hearing to March 31, 2022 in order to eliminate the missing points.
