Under the leading of the Free Women’s Movement (TJA) and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Women’s Council, a rally will be held in Diyarbakır Istasyon Square with the slogan ‘’Enough to racism and sexism, now is the time for women’s freedom.’’

Ergani Municipality Co-Mayor Mervan Yıldız, who replaces by trustee, talked about the regional rally to be held to draw attention to the increasing violence against women, racism, and fascism and pointed out that the rally will be an answer to racism, fascism, sexism, and gendercide.

‘State does not see women’s struggle’

Stating that women’s faced with prostitution, harassment and rape is increasing with the special war policies carried out by the government, Mervan stated that the femicides brought about gendercide. Mervan said: ‘’The 21st century is a century that will take place with the women’s revolution. Therefore, in this period, states add new ones to their policies that not seeing the struggle of women and pulling the struggle of women back. Many women's gains have emerged as a result of the struggle of women all over the world, both on the left party front, on the women's feminist front, and on the women's struggle in Kurdistan. But in these recent times, especially with the war policies carried out by the state on women’s bodies, it is trying to drag women into prostitution and drugs. Along with these, the increasing femicides also bring about gendercide. We aimed to hold a rally at the Istasyon Square in Amed on October 16, together with feminists from the socialist women’s front and women’s organizations in the European Union, led by the TJA, HDP, DBP Women’s Council. We are preparing a rally for this.’’

‘All women in the world are targets’

Stating that they are carrying out comprehensive works in the region for the rally to draw attention to the gendercides, violence, fascism and racism, Mervan said: ‘’Currently, we will organize regional rallies in every province and district of Kurdistan. There are serious preparations for this in all provinces and districts. We go door to door and make calls to invite women to the field. At the same time, there is an invitation to the women’s movements on the Turkey front. There is also an invitation to women’s movements in Europe. Because there is such a reality and the problem in particular is to destroy the Kurdish identity of the Kurdish woman. When we look at world politics, all women are currently under the target. We continue our work by going around the provinces, districts and villages in order to further increase our organization and give a higher momentum to our struggle.’’

‘The main issue of our rally is isolation’

Stating that fascism, racism and imposed severe isolation will come to the fore at the rally to be held on October 16, Mervan said: ‘’There has been an unlawful isolation, especially in Imralı, recently. Of course, this isolation is not only imposed on Mr. Abdullah Öcalan in Imralı. It is currently an isolation imposed especially on women and on peoples. There is increasing racism, sexism and fascism as a result of the isolation. Therefore, the main emphasis of our rally is on these issues. We will hold a rally to draw attention to these issues.’’

‘The rally will be an answer to the system with the words of women’

Finally, saying that they expect to huge participation of women in the rally that will be held tomorrow, Mervan stated that this rally is as important as Newroz and March 8 Women’s Day. Mervan said: ‘’We celebrate March 8 and Newroz with enthusiasm. Every year, we make calls with the spirit of participation in March 8 and Newroz. Therefore, this rally is very meaningful for us. Because this rally is a rally led by women, to answer the system with the words women say. For this reason, we invite all women, especially all women in the region and in Amed, to the rally we will hold on October 16 at the Istasyon Square.’’
