IZMIR - Prisoner Figen Şahin, whose wards were raided in Şakran Women’s Closed Prison, stated that they were exposed to insults and threats during her conversation with her family and that they were taken to another ward that looked like a cage.

Riot police and many guards raided the prison ward in Şakran Women’s Closed Prison on October 6. According to tell of the prisoners, in the raid carried out by the guards and polices in robocop clothes, the prisoners were exposed to threat and insult.

Figen Şahin, one of the prisoners in the prison, shared what happened in her phone call with her family. Figen stated: ‘’They said, ‘We will evacuate this place,’ and raided the ward with robocop polices at around 22:00. They scattered things on the ground. They broke more than half of them. They tried to provoke us to attack us. They insulted. They emptied our place and took us to an unhealthy and dirty place. They wanted to separate us from each other. We did not want to separate. In the end they put us in the same place. The pressure is still on to separate. They are constantly provoking to attack. They broke our stuff. We cleaned things until 04:00 in the morning. There was no physical attack, but the psychological attack is intense. They are attempting a massacre. We have friends in the next ward. Our morale is still high. The ventilation is covered with wire fence (like a cage) and there is also a camera. They want us to evacuate the ward immediately, we are already 27. Nine friends are in quarantine.’’
