DİYARBAKIR - Reacting to the municipality’s failure to solve the infrastructure and cleaning problems in the Pirahmed village of Ergani district, the women said that although they applied to the authorities many times, they could not get any results.

In the Ahmetli (Pirahmed) village of Diyarbakir’s Ergani district, the roads that were damaged due to the lack of infrastructure were at risk of collapse, and the lack of garbage collection caused environmental pollution. It was stated that the problem was not solved, although the citizens living in the village applied to the municipality many times.

‘Garbages are not collected’

The women, who reacted to the situation by saying, ‘’We do cleaning that the municipality does not do,’’ pointed out that this situation has been experienced especially in the last two years. Cahide Güner, one of the women living in the village, said: ‘’Because the municipality did not collect the garbages, insects and flies increased in the village. Municipality employees are not doing their job. We collect our garbages with our own means and ensure the cleanliness of the village. Even though they come to us and say, ‘We will solve the problems,’ no one comes and does anything.
Stating that they could not even meet their needs due to the economic crisis, Cahide said that they also had to deal with the infrastructure and cleaning problems of the village.

‘Our homes are staying under waters’

Songül Yer, who stated that swamps occurred due to the lack of infrastructure in the village, said that the houses were flooded because there were no drain downs. Songül contineud: ‘’The roads were flooded because the water pipes and drain downs were not made. The waters have come to the front of our houses. Despite telling us that they will do for the road drain downs and install the pipes, nothing has been done. We have great hygiene problems. Our children are constantly getting into the mud. When this happens, our children get sick. There is germ everywhere. Our situation in the village is not good at all. If they had built infrastructure, our houses would not have been stayed under waters, and the stench would not have come. We want the municipality to come and install the pipes. Let these waters not flow towards our homes anymore. The water of the whole village is flowing on us. These problems should be solved as soon as possible.’’
