URFA - Members of the Textile Workers’ Union affiliated with DISK started a vigil to protest Uğur Textile Factory, which fired them based on the article Code-18.

Textile Workers’ Union affiliated to the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions (DISK) received union authorization in Uğur Textile in Urfa on September 10. The factory management, which did not recognize the union, which reached legal pluralism and was authorized a month ago, dismissed 300 workers after 24 days. Workers dismissed based on Code-18 and DISK Textile Workers’ Union District Representative made a statement in front of Uğur Textile Factory located in Urfa 2nd Organized Industrial Zone. In the statement, ‘’The union is a right and cannot be prevented. Long live work, labor, freedom struggle’’ banner was unfurled.

‘They did not recognize the unionization’

In the statement made by DISK Textile Workers’ Union Regional Representative Mehmet Türkmen, it was stated that the factory belongs to Hayri Uğur, Chairperson of the Akdeniz Hazır Giyim (Mediterranean Ready Wear) and Ready-to-Wear Exporters’ Union. The statement said: ‘’Three months ago, our union was organized here and a month ago it reached legal pluralism and was authorized. The management of the factory did all kinds of things against our organization. They did their best to prevent union organizing. They did everything to hinder our legal rights and put the workers to the door. When workers seek their rights, there are obstructions, no obstructions were made to the bosses. We will file a criminal complaint against the factory management. They tell us to ‘seek your rights through legal means’. As long as there is no violence, everyone can express their opinions using their democratic right. We are negotiating for an hour to use our right.’’

The action of vigil is launched

Emphasizing that the reason for the closure of the factory was unionization, the statement said: ‘’The workers were exposed to mobbing and their families were called and threatened. Unionization was not recognized. Isn’t that a crime?’’ It was announced that a sit-in act will start against the prevention of unionization and a press release will be made in the city center tomorrow.
The statement was concluded with the slogans ‘’We will win by resisting’’ and ‘’Unionization cannot be prevented’’. The action of vigil continues in groups of 20 alternately. The aciton of vigil will last between 09:00 and 17:00 every day.
