DİYARBAKIR - Under the leading of TJA and DBP, the preparations for the rally to be held on October 16 at Istasyon Square have begun. Expressing that they will shout for freedom from the field, TJA activist Emine Kaya called to women to participate in the rally.

Under the leading of Free Women’s Movement (TJA) and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), a regional rally will be held in Diyarbakır Istasyon Square on October 16 with the slogan ‘’Enough for racism and sexism, now is the time for women’s freedom’’. TJA activist Emine Kaya, who called for participation in the rally to be held to end the increasing violence and femicides, said: ‘’We will shout for freedom from the field.’’

‘The power targets the growing women’s struggle’

Stating that the increasing violence and femicide has reached the level of massacre, Emine pointed out that men are protected with impunity policies and are not prosecuted, and that there is no legal regulation on women’s rights in Turkey, which has become a country where women are not safe. Emphasizing that the women’s struggle is growing, Emine added that the government is trying to intimidate women with oppression, but women are more encouraged by this policy.

Emphasizing that women faced with the male violence is related to the power, Emine said: ‘’The power that does not judge men who perpetrate violence against women claims that they protect women and their rights. There is a big contradiction here. We know that the government has never ensured the rights and security of women. With the campaign we have started, we aim to prevent violence, attacks and oppression against women.’’

‘Society needs to be on the side of women’s struggle’

Stating that women exposed to violence are also excluded in the eyes of society, Emine noted that the silence of the society also contributed to the increase in violence, rape and femicide. Expressing that every segment of society should stand by the women’s rightful struggle, Emine stated that Kurdish women set an example to the world with their struggle against the attacks and said: ‘’The biggest example is the Yazidi women fighting against ISIS in Shengal. Just as women in Rojava showed great resistance against the ISIS mentality, today women in Afghanistan are displaying a great resistance against the Taliban, who have the same mentality. With their resistance, women are making the power that has a masculine mentality lose power. Women, who are conscious and organized against the mentality of the power, are seen as an obstacle because the power cannot maintain its own dominance comfortably. We see the same thing in Afghanistan today. That is why most attacks are made against women. For this reason, women will consciously organize and destroy this fascist and masculine mentality.’’

At the end of her speech, Emine called for participation in the rally to be held in Istasyon Square on October 16 against the policies implemented by the government against women and said: ‘’We will shout for our freedom from the field.’’
