‘Animals crushed by diggers’

Selami Kızıler, one of the citizens who sold drinks in the destroyed garden, described the events as follows: ‘’This was an area that was afforested and maintained by my family elders 100 years ago. However, at 07:00 am in the morning without notice, the trees were uprooted. My father tried to prevent what happened by getting in front of the trees, but he was able to save only a few trees. We had chickens, chicks, cats. Unfortunately, the mothers of the chicks and kittens died as a result of the crushing of the digger. There was completely massacre in here.’’

Selami stated that the authorities defended themselves during the incident by saying, ‘’This is state property. We cannot see or watch this place because of the afforestation.’’ Selami said: ‘’This is a historical place. How can one enter the gardens right next to the city walls, which are accepted a UNESCO World Heritage, with diggers? This is a crime, a massacre’’.
