Punishment request about journalist Buse Söğütlü

ISTANBUL - The prosecutor presented his opinion in the case filed against the Gazette Yolculuk reporter Buse Söğütlü. In the opinion, Buse was requested to be imprisoned for up to three years.
 
Gazette Yolculuk reporter Buse Söğütlü, who was prosecuted on the charge of ‘’targeting those who took part in the war on terror’’ on the grounds of her news and digital media platform posts. Buse Söğütlü’s hearing was held at the Istanbul 23rd High Criminal Court in Çağlayan. The spectator and journalists were not allowed to take in the hearing, in which Buse and her lawyers were present, on the grounds of the pandemic.
 
Punishment requested
 
The prosecution, which presented its opinion at the hearing, requested Buse to be imprisoned for up to three years on the charge of ‘’targeting those who took part in the war on terror’’.
Buse’s lawyers requested additional time to defend against the opinion.
 
Accepting the request, the court board postponed the hearing to January 27, 2022.
 
What happened?
 
Gazette Yolculuk reporter Buse Söğütlü was detained on November 19, 2019, and held in custody for two days. Within the scope of the investigation, a lawsuit was filed against Buse on the charge of ‘’targeting people who took part in the war on terror’’, sharing ‘’the tweets of her posted about Akın Gürlek, Chief Judge of the Istanbul 37th High Criminal Court, regarding the trial practice of him’’. The first hearing of the case was held on October 14, 2020, at the Istanbul 23rd High Criminal Court.
 
Buse stated about the chief judge as: ‘’If Hitler had come out of his grave and sat in Akın Gürlek’s chair, he would have used almost the same sentences. I passed professional ethics, everything; a person carry weight of the chair he sits in.’’
