Sick prisoners’ situation on agenda of parliament

ANKARA - HDP MP Muazzez Orhan Işık brought the situation of seriously sick prisoners in prisons to the parliament’s agenda and asked Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül as: ‘’Do you think you are politically responsible for the death of convicts and do you plan to resign?’’
 
Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Van MP Muazzez Orhan Işık brought to the agenda of the parliament that the seriously sick prisoners and the demands of the sick prisoners within the scope of their right to health are not fulfilled. Muazzez submitted a parliamentary question to the parliament, asking the Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gül to answer.
 
‘40 prisoners lost their lives in 2020’
 
In the parliamentary question, it was stated that approximately 40 prisoners including Vefa Kartal, Ali Boçnak, Takiyettin Özkahraman, Mustafa Akyol, Kinyas Gülcan, Sabri Kaya, Nurcan Bakır, Nebi İlhan, Erdinç Tülay, Burhan Karatay, Hüseyin Polat, Musa Gülbeyaz, Muhsin Kızılkan, Mehmet Yıldızbakan, Mehmet Selim Buğrahan, İbrahim Akbaba, Emine Aslan Aydoğan, Mustafa Koçak, Ebru Timtik, Mustafa Kabakçıoğlu, Sıtkı Bektaş and Koçer Özdal lost their lives in 2020 because they were not taken to the hospital on time. It was stated that Mehmet Ali Çelebi, Hüseyin İdiğ, Hayrettin Yılmaz, İsa Gültekin and Hadi Yalçın lost their lives in this year. Pointing out that 44 prisoners lost their lives in prisons between 2017 and 2019, in parliamentary question said: ‘’This situation, which has actually turned into a death sentence as a result of the measures not taken and the healthcare not provided, reveals. According to the 2020 data of the IHD’s ‘Extremely Sick and Sick Prisoners List’ in prisons, there are still 1605 sick prisoners, 604 of whom are extremely sick, in prisons in Turkey.’’
