DERSİM/ŞIRNAK - The forest fire, which started as a result of a military operation in the countryside of Hozat district and was not allowed to be intervened, spread to the villages of Ovacık. Villagers who wanted to intervene in the fire that had been going on for three days in the forest area in the village of Mêhrîna in the Besta region were prevented by the soldiers.

The forest fire, which started in Tanzig (Danzi), Kurukaymak villages and Koçeri hamlet as a result of the military operation in Hozat on August 17, spread to the villages of Uzunmeşe, Değirmendere, Dereköy and Çamurek and Hınzori hamlets of the Buzlutepe (Karper) village of the Ovacık district.

Intervention is prevented

According to the information received by the Mesopotamia Agency (MA) from the citizens of the region, the armed drone bombed the region three times on August 16, and on August 17 the fire started as a result of the fire from the helicopter. Pointing out that the fire has been going on for 12 days, the citizens said: ‘’There has been no intervention to the fire for days, and those who wanted to intervene in the fire were prevented by the soldiers. The forest areas have turned to ash, this fire has been going on for days and the area is completely covered with smoke.’’

‘The fire will reach our village’

A citizen from Karper village of Ovacık district reminded that their village was burnt down in 1994 and said: ‘’If not intervened, the fire will reach our village by tomorrow. Our villages will burn again. Two days ago, they came from Hozat Forestry Department with construction equipment to open a road, but they went back. They said they will open a road from Hozat side. They came again today, they did not open a road. They are deceiving us. It is necessary to intervene in the fire as soon as possible from the air.’’

The fire in Besta is on its third day

The fire, which started three days ago, continues in the countryside of the village of Mêhrîna in the Besta region of Şırnak. It was stated that the villagers who went to extinguish the fire that broke out as a result of the helicopter bombing were prevented by the soldiers on the grounds that it was a ‘’forbidden zone’’.
