Kurdish artist Aynur Doğan was awarded the World Music Expo WOMEX 2021 Artist Award. It was stated that Aynur’s ‘’dedication to the preservation and innovation of Kurdish and Alevi culture for a long time, standing artistically strong in the face of political pressure and being a model for everyone who sings against those who try to silence’’ are important reasons for being deemed worthy of the award.

 

Announcing that she won the award on her account on the digital media platform, Aynur said: ‘’One of the most important steps of my musical journey started with WOMEX in 2006. WOMEX, the biggest international music expo where the heart of world music beats, has deemed me worthy of the 2021 artist award, I am honored! I wanted to share my happiness with you.’’
