Prison sentence to HDP member Filiz Işık

MARDIN - HDP Midyat former District Co-chair Filiz Işık was sentenced to six years, 10 months, and 15 days in prison.
 
The final hearing of the trial of the previous term District Co-chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Midyat, Filiz Işık, was held. Filiz, who was arrested on charges of "membership in a terrorist organization" after she was detained in September, attended the hearing at the Mardin 2nd High Criminal Court via Sound and Video Information System (SEGBİS) from Elazığ T Type Closed Prison, where she was detained. Her lawyer was present at the hearing.
 
At the hearing, which took place after the identification, the prosecutor's office repeated its opinion on imposing a sentence on the allegation of "membership in a terrorist organization".
In her defense, Filiz denied the accusation against her, stating that there was no evidence in the file other than her political activities and being an executive in HDP, and demanded her acquittal.
Lawyer Cihan Güçlük also stated that the allegation against his client was based entirely on confidential witness statements and stated that the file consisted of abstract allegations. Cihan stated that the elements of the accusation did not occur and demanded an acquittal.
 
Penalty given
 
After announcing its decision, the court sentenced Filiz to six years, 10 months and 15 days in prison and decided to continue her detention.
