Istanbul Convention abolished

NEWS CENTER - The Istanbul Convention, signed to prevent, prosecute, and eliminate violence against women and domestic violence, has been abolished.
 
“Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence”, known as the “Istanbul Convention”, signed with the aim of protecting women against all forms of violence, preventing, prosecuting, and eliminating violence against women and domestic violence. It was withdrawn overnight with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on March 20.
 
The decision that the convention will be abolished on July 1, 2021, was published in the Official Gazette.
 
As of July 1, the Istanbul Convention has been abolished.
