URFA - Emine Şenyaşar, who lost her husband and two sons by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız, says the following about the 4th year of the massacre: “The people who murdered my children are roaming freely in Suruç. I said maybe justice is under the concrete, I wanted to dig with a pick. We went there to see that justice is at the foundation of the courthouse. But justice was not there either. There is no justice in this state, only cruelty.”

Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar and his sons Adil and Celal Şenyaşar were murdered as a result of the attack by relatives and bodyguards of AKP MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız before the June 24, 2018, General Elections in the Suruç district of Urfa. Four years after the incident, Fadıl Şenyaşar, who lost his father and two brothers in the incident, was sentenced to 37 years and nine months in prison, and Enver Yıldız, the elder brother of the AKP MP, was sentenced to 18 years in prison in the judgment hearing held on April 2. Emine Şenyaşar, who lost her husband and children and whose son was imprisoned, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who survived the incident with injuries, applied to different institutions and organizations many times to demand that justice be served. But each time they returned empty-handed.

They started the ‘justice’ watch

Continuing their search for "justice", the family finally started a sit-in on March 9 in front of the Urfa Courthouse. Emine and Ferit Şenyaşar, who are in the 4th month of their protests, were detained four times during their watch. On the other hand, the family faced police attacks many times.

Since the day they started their protests, many political parties and non-governmental organizations, as well as families who lost their relatives in the Suruç Massacre, Dilan İzol, who lost her family members after the attack of former AKP MP Zülfikar İzol's relatives in the Siverek district of Urfa, and many citizens made a solidarity visit.

In the 4th year of the massacre, Emine Şenyaşar talked about what she has been lived since the massacre took place.

‘I couldn’t see from crying’

Noting that their families lived in unity and solidarity before the massacre took place, and they did not harm anyone, Emine said: "We were all living in the same apartment together. They were going out to work in the morning and coming home in the evening. Some days my children were going out to play ball. They I hid that ball after they were killed. I have not been able to sleep since the day of the massacre. They gave me sleeping pills so I could use it. I could not see because of crying. I must get surgery. There is no 'life' left for me. My other son stays in a solitary cell in prison. The people who killed my children are also walking around freely in Suruç. They murdered my children innocently."

‘Justice is not at the base of the courthouse’

Adding that she did not have an illness before her husband and children were killed, Emine said: "I had an operation after the massacre. Heart disease appeared. I must get surgery on my eyes. My whole family is in a dispersed. I and my two sons are left alone. My son is in prison. Every time I go to see him, I realize that there is no state. There is no justice. We went to Ankara, we applied to every institution, they said that there is no justice. I said maybe justice is under the concrete. I wanted to dig with a pick. The other day, we went there to see that justice is at the base of the courthouse. I looked there. Maybe, they release my son. But justice was not there either."

‘There is no justice in this state, only cruelty’

"We have been sitting here surrounded by ants and bugs in front of the courthouse for months. Maybe because justice will come, but it has not," she said. Emine says they got up early in the morning and set off from Suruç to come to the courthouse. Emphasizing that they have been detained many times without any justification since they came to the courthouse, Emine stated: "They take us to the court without any reason. They take us into custody before people come to visit us, we are held until the evening. Then they have released us. There is no justice in this state, only cruelty. We have been here for so many months. The prosecutor closes the door and does not let us in. We are not even allowed to enter the courthouse. Where was it seen that people were killed inside the hospital? Erdoğan is also aware of the incidents, why doesn't he do anything? All those who killed my children have guns."

‘I am surviving through my son’

Expressing that the hospital records regarding the massacre at the hospital should be come out immediately, Emine finally said: "The prosecutor does not listen to us either. Why does he not come out the records? I am sitting here so that justice can be served. I was being treated before. But after this time, until justice is served, I will not be treated. I cannot stand this pain anymore. Why did they murder my children? My son did not kill anyone. They buried my husband and children under the ground. Let my prisoner son be released. I am surviving through my son. He says that he can survive for me too. Let them release my son as soon as possible."
