Fatma Turan sentenced to one year and four months prison

HAKKARİ - Peace Mother Fatma Turan was sentenced to one year and four months in prison at the first hearing of her trial for "insulting the president".
 
In Hakkari, the first hearing of the trial opened with the allegation of "insulting the president" after the peace call on Fatma Turan, member of the Peace Mothers Council, on September 17, 2020, was held at the Hakkari 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance. Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Central District co-chair Sinem Seven attended the hearing in which Fatma was absent.
 
The court board sentenced Fatma to one year and three months in prison for "publicly drag the people into hatred" and one month for "praising the crime and the criminal". The court board reduced the sentence, which was one year and three months in total, to 10 months and 25 days. The court left the announcement of the verdict to later.

Speaking in a press release led by Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-Chair Leyla Güven on September 17 in Hakkari, Fatma Turan stated that all women should come together for peace, emphasizing that the Kurdish people will not end with war, and that what needs to be done is to ensure peace. Fatma, who was detained on the same day for allegedly "insulting the president" after her speech, was sent to the court after being questioned. Fatma was released by the Magistrates’ Court on the condition of judicial control.
